Course description

The Australian creators of The Second Woman, one of the most outstanding shows of this GREC, arrive at Sala Beckett to teach a workshop on how to transform literary and theatrical texts through performance art or film techniques.

Our collaborative practice works at the intersection of film, theatre and performance art. We look at how different disciplines and mediums can be brought together to generate new forms. In this workshop, we are going to look at scenes from several English literary and theatrical texts and explore how they might be transformed through performance art or the incorporation of film and video techniques. Through practical experimentation, we will consider the way in which video in live performance can move beyond the supplementary to transform the temporal, spatial and emotional dynamics of the theatre. For those interested in performance art, we investigate the ways in which genres and methods of performance art can be brought together with text-based theatre to create alternative structures of desire to those motivated by story. The workshop will conclude with short group presentations of a scene. The aim of these presentations is to test questions rather than present answers, to approach with an eye to experimentation rather than results.

This workshop is designed for actors, directors, and solo performance and theatre makers who are interested in creating works in an on the ground collaborative context.

Within the GREC 2024 Festival de Barcelona.
