Davide Carnevali

(Milan, Italy, 1981)

He is a doctor in the Performing Arts from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, with a period of studies at the Freie Universität in Berlin. In addition to his academic activity he is a translator of Catalan and Spanish. He forms part of the editorial council of the journal (Pausa.) and writes for different Italian and international theatre journals. He also teaches courses on theatre theory and playwriting. As an author, he trained on courses with Laura Curino, Carles Batlle, Martin Crimp, Biljana Srbljanović, José Sanchis Sinisterra, Hans-Thies Lehmann, John von Düffel, Simon Stephens and Martin Heckmanns. In 2009, Variazioni sul modello di Kraepelin won a prize at the Theatertreffen in Berlin. Again in 2009 this work also took the Premi Riccione per il Teatro (national award for new playwriting in Italy) and that of Les Journées de Lyon des Auteurs in 2012. In 2009 he received the Sassetti Culture Award for the short work Calciobalilla. With Come fu che in Italia scoppiò la rivoluzione ma nessuno se ne accorse he won the Asti Theatre Prize in 2010 and the Borrello Prize for New Playwriting in 2011. In 2012 he premiered Sweet Home Europa with a production by the Schauspielhaus Bochum and in the form of a play for radio for Deutschlandradio Kultur. In 2013, he again won the Premi Riccione per il Teatro with Ritratto di donna araba che guarda il mare.

His plays have been presented at various international festivals and theatre seasons and have been translated into German, English, Catalan, Spanish, Estonian, Flemish, French, Hungarian, Greek, Polish, Romanian and Russian.

The Sala Beckett has shown plays by this author such as Variacions sobre el model de Kraepelin (o El camp semàntic dels conills a la cassola) (2012).
