Course description

This workshop will explore performing self-written autofictional texts. How to write and perform short monologues that start from a very personal and intimate point of view and from personal story telling? What does autofictional writing actually mean? How can you perform personal texts that reach out to an audience and deal with broader social, political, philosophical and human issues?

In this workshop, Falk Richter will lay out his method of developing and directing personal autofictional texts. The group will read and discuss several examples of autofictional dramatic texts by Falk Richter, Edouard Louis, Sarah Kane and the participants of the group. Before and during the workshop, each participant will be encouraged to write their own short monologues according to a certain given pattern and framework and create a series of 5 – 10-minute short performances with themselves as stage performers.

This workshop will be held in English. As a result, participants need to able to communicate, perform and write short texts in this language. Attending the workshop requires some preparation a few weeks prior to its start. To prepare for the workshop, you will be asked to read some excerpts of autofictional literature and to do some writing exercises that will be sent out to you by email.
