Course description

A call to all spirits of desire, angels, vampires, and ghosts. I propose sharing a time about viewing, presence, mediumship, and stage transformism that passes through the landscapes that I have been traveling through lately on stage and that sets foot in the new fields that are to come. The dynamics of this shared time will be crossed by my last two pieces, El Ardor and One night at the Golden bar. And I will take advantage of this time to share some practices of the new creative process that I am in right now, Analphabet. The idea is to function as a flexible animal articulated by everyone, so that as a group we are able to deactivate my initial proposals and redo from the present.

The practice I envision is articulated around three main axes:

  • Direct the gaze
  • Do cross-dressing
  • Host your ghost

Aimed at: those interested in the living arts, in contemporary performing practice and in its relationship with desire, bodies and identities on the margins of heteronormativity, more or less free spirits.

Within the GREC 2024 Barcelona Festival.

Alberto Cortés

Stage director, playwright and performer of his own diversions. He graduated from the ESAD in Malaga in Stage Direction and Dramaturgy and in Art History at the UMA. In 2009 he began his stage journey from a bastard and peripheral dramaturgy that has grown wilder with the passage of time. Since then, he has not ceased to collide with various creators and friends who have inspired his path, and to generate plays with different formats and disciplines in an attempt to continue having hope in the intangible and the human. His work has been developed over the years through theatre, dance, performance and also folklore, flamenco or site-specific pieces; he accompanies the processes of other creators from directing and dramaturgy and gives workshops in the form of meetings where he shares the research he is going through. Lately, his path has stopped at the idea of understanding the stage as the space of desire and at the romantic relationship with the spectator. In 2022 he published Los montes son tuyos with publisher Continta me tienes, which contains his last two plays, El Ardor and One Night at the Golden Bar. His plays have been and continue to be related to various national spaces and festivals (Teatros del Canal, Mercat de les Flors, Festival de Otoño, Dansa Valencia, BAD, Sâlmon, TNT, Teatro Central, FIT, Teatre Nacional de Catalunya and Teatro Español). His next play, Analphabet, will be premiered in September 2024 at the TNT festival. At the present time, he lives in his identity as a creator, performer, director, playwright, accompanist, teacher, son, brother, uncle, lover and friend.
