Alberto Cortés

(Malaga, 1983)

Stage director, playwright and performer of his own diversions. He graduated from the ESAD in Malaga in Stage Direction and Dramaturgy and in Art History at the UMA. In 2009 he began his stage journey from a bastard and peripheral dramaturgy that has grown wilder with the passage of time. Since then, he has not ceased to collide with various creators and friends who have inspired his path, and to generate plays with different formats and disciplines in an attempt to continue having hope in the intangible and the human. His work has been developed over the years through theatre, dance, performance and also folklore, flamenco or site-specific pieces; he accompanies the processes of other creators from directing and dramaturgy and gives workshops in the form of meetings where he shares the research he is going through. Lately, his path has stopped at the idea of understanding the stage as the space of desire and at the romantic relationship with the spectator. In 2022 he published Los montes son tuyos with publisher Continta me tienes, which contains his last two plays, El Ardor and One Night at the Golden Bar. His plays have been and continue to be related to various national spaces and festivals (Teatros del Canal, Mercat de les Flors, Festival de Otoño, Dansa Valencia, BAD, Sâlmon, TNT, Teatro Central, FIT, Teatre Nacional de Catalunya and Teatro Español). His next play, Analphabet, will be premiered in September 2024 at the TNT festival. At the present time, he lives in his identity as a creator, performer, director, playwright, accompanist, teacher, son, brother, uncle, lover and friend.
