André Mangion

(Malta)

André Mangion is a creative writer and performer. In 2012 he wrote and staged It-Tfajjel ta’ fuq il-Bandla (The Little Boy on the Swing), a play about Terry, a young boy on the autism spectrum, which won the very first edition of the Social Theatre Contest in Malta. The following year, he went on to win the prize for the Most Promising Young Author with his novel Tattoo (Horizons, 2013) at the annual Literature for Youths contest. In 2016 he produced his first show, Teatr-ejn, a double-bill at Spazju Kreattiv. His latest play at Spazju Kreattiv is Raymond “Fight” Beck, which he co-produced with Teatru Malta in 2018. This play, which sought to bring together two different forms of entertainment, theatre and boxing, was nominated for the Most Innovative Project award of the 2017/2018 theatrical season in Malta. The play later had a staged reading at Instituto Cervantes in New York and was adapted and performed during Altofest. His most recent work was an experimental verse drama performed during the Cospicua Short Play Festival in 2020: “Id-dwal mit-tieqa tas-sitt sular // Il-warda bla xewk fuq iċ-ċinta tal-ġnien” (The light from the 6th floor window // The rose on the garden fence with no thorns).
