DoSEL Project
From September 2024 Sala Beckett is part of the project DoSEL (Drama of Smaller European Languages), which wants to contribute to safeguarding the cultural and linguistic diversity in the European cultural space, specifically in the drama and theatre sector, by improving the conditions for transnational creation, translation and performance of European drama written in smaller European languages. The DoSEL project will close the gap in the up-to-date initiatives which addressed the transnationalisation of European playwriting without regards for the special needs of the smaller European languages for ‘promotion and protection’. On the other hand, the DoSEL project will introduce new theatre translation approaches to improve the artistic quality of drama in translation.
Upon completion, the DoSEL project will result in the creation of 24 new translations of plays originally written in Slovene, Maltese, Catalan, Basque, Croatian, Estonian, Albanian and Bulgarian; 8 presentations of European drama outside of their countries of origin, and in over 200 translational mobilities of European artists.
